For many people that enjoy having that sun darkened look without the burning or dangers, sun-beds and tanning booths have become the most popular method to have a year round tan. However, with more and more research coming out on the dangers and the risk of skin cancer, some are now turning to alternatives to the dangerous skin damaging practice. One of the choices people are now making is to go to a salon that offers spray tanning for an almost instant, safe effect. Although there are many other methods, spraying seems to provide the most even and consistent tan available at the moment.
Manufacturers, quick to join the rush, have produced home spray tanning systems. Whichever method you decide upon there are some simple but basic steps needed to ensure the best effect. First off, you should exfoliate your skin to remove any dead skin. If this isn’t done, dead skin will gradually drop off leaving odd, light patches and spoil the effect.
Once this process is complete, it is advisable to prepare your skin further by applying a moisturizing cream (or lotion) to it which will make the agent easier to apply. Once you have done this you will be ready to apply the tanning lotion or cream but remember to wear latex gloves as long applications mean that the tanning solution coats the hands producing an orange effect on the palms which everyone can see. To avoid any other application mistakes that could give away the fact that the tan is not real, make sure those fingers, feet, elbows and knees are only given the lightest of coats as they have a habit of coming out darker. Where a spray tanning system has been used it is quite normal, once it has been applied, to use some sort of towel to wipe any excess so streaking does not occur.
To avoid any smears, marks or cracking, you will need to relax and remain still, while the tanning agent dries. Don’t forget to wear some old clothes as fake tan is notorious for staining almost anything it touches. You should choose something dark and also maybe something you don’t particularly care for until the excess is worn off. Armed with this information it should be easier to have a fake tan that is safe and available all year round without anyone knowing what it is you are doing.
